DATE: December 22, 2009
TO: Hancock County Media Outlets
FROM: Greg Arnette, Health Commisioner Hancock County Health Department
Stephen Mills, Health Commissioner, Findlay City Health Department
We will begin vaccinating people on December 14, 2009, who were not in the CDC’s original priority groups, and will continue to provide vaccine for individuals at future clinics. Anyone over the age of 6 months is eligible to receive the vaccine, and all children up to age 17 shall have a parent/guardian present and provide consent. Parents/Guardians are reminded to bring their children, who are 9 years old and under, back for the 2nd dose of vaccine after a minimum of 28 days from the first dose.
Walk-in clinics are going to be held throughout the month of February at the health department offices. The public is asked to park in the lot behind the Risner Spinal Center; signage will be posted at the entrance. Appointments will not be taken. The dates for these clinics are as follows: Wed. February 3 5-7pm Fri. February 5 9-11am Wed. February 10 5-7pm Fri. February 12 9-11am Wed. February 17 5-7pm Fri. February 19 9-11am Wed. February 24 5-7pm Fri. February 26 9-11am
Based on availability, individuals in the priority groups who are between the ages of 2-49 who are not immuno-compromised and are otherwise healthy will receive the Flumist nasal vaccine. All other individuals on the priority list, including pregnant women, will receive the intramuscular injection. If you have questions about the status of your health, please check with your healthcare provider.
Some residents may have pre-registered through the Ohio Department of Health (ODH) website. This registration will not guarantee receipt of the vaccine over any other individuals. The Hancock County/Findlay City Health Departments are encouraging those in the priority groups to go to the ODH website (https://h1n1vaccine.odh.ohio.gov/LHD/LHDHome.aspx), create an account, and complete the registration, but do not print. Individuals are also asked to go to either the local city or county websites to print off the Vaccine Administration Form, complete the form, and bring the completed form to the clinic site. The Hancock County address is: http://co.hancock.oh.us/bdhealth/ and the Findlay City address is http://www.findlayohio.com.
Individuals attending the clinic should dress in layers, with short sleeves available for ease of vaccination.
There will be no cost for the vaccine.
Remember, the number one way to prevent flu, is frequent hand washing.
If you have any questions regarding the H1N1 influenza vaccination please contact the Findlay City Health Department at (419) 424-7105 or Hancock County Health Department at (419) 424-7869.
