NOTARY INFORMATION

New Applicants:

You must be at least 18 years of age and a resident of Hancock County. You need to complete an application at the Clerk of Courts, 300 South Main Street, Findlay, OH, any weekday between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. At the time of application you will be required to pay a $50.00 application fee that can be paid in cash or by check/money order. If paying by check/money order, please make it payable to the Clerk of Courts. There is a test of multiple choice given the fourth Friday of each month at 9:00 a.m. At the time of application you will receive a guidebook to study and receive your testing date. You must make application the month prior to testing (ex. application executed on September 1 would not be eligible for testing until the fourth Friday of October).

On the day of your test, if you pass, you must have a check made payable to the Notary Commission Clerk in the amount of $15.00.

After we receive your commission from the State (usually no longer than a month), we will contact you to come to the Clerk of Courts, 300 South Main Street, Findlay, OH and be sworn in. At that time you will need to record your commission with us and pay a $5.00 fee which can be cash or check/money order made payable to Clerk of Courts.

Your notary commission is valid for 5 years.

Renewal of Notary Commission:

You will not receive any notification that your commission is due to expire. Since it may take 3 to 4 weeks to process a commission, notaries who are seeking to renew their commissions are advised to make application 60 days before their current commission expires.

If your notary commission is valid or has been expired for no more than 6 months, you may seek renewal. If your notary commission has been expired for 6 months or more, you must retest (see above "New Applicants").

You need to complete a renewal application at the Clerk of Courts, 300 South Main Street, Findlay, OH, any weekday between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. At the time of time of application you will be required to bring your current notary certificate with you as well as a $25.00 application fee that can be paid in cash or by check/money order. If paying by check/money order, please make it payable to the Clerk of Courts. You must also have a check made payable to the Notary Commission Clerk in the amount of $15.00.

Change of Name:

If your name has changed since you received your notary, you do not need to change your commission until you renew your commission, but if you wish to have it changed - please submit:

A notary public is responsible for notifying the Office of the Notary Commission Clerk of any changes to his or her name or address.
This notification provides contact information and it ensures compliance with statutory law.

When you receive your updated commission you will need to come to the Clerk of Courts office to have it recorded.
